Training

Our commitment to on-going training for Peregrine House staff
The directors and managers take great pride and pleasure in watching the confidence and capabilities of the staff grow as they go through the very significant training processes that we have established for the benefit of residents and staff.
Our commitment to on-going training for Peregrine House staff is endorsed by our Investors in People Gold Award and the award of the ‘three star’ and ‘Excellent’ Awards from the CQC at successive inspections.
A wide variety of training methods are employed, including everything from traditional classroom teaching, on-line training, NVQs and on-the-job mentoring.
The directors and managers enjoy feedback from staff returning from external recurrent training and hearing that they were able to confidently tell the tutors the answers to their questions.
Peregrine House invests considerable time, effort and money into training as it is seen as one of the best ways of ensuring that the residents experience a dignified and enjoyable lifestyle whilst residing with us.
As well as some staff who have progressed from entry level to management over the years we have also attracted people of high calibre to enjoy a new vocation – including a head teacher who’s mother was a resident here and was inspired to jon us as part of the care and support team.
Virtual Dementia
Our staff experienced first hand what it feels like to suffer from dementia, thanks to an interactive training session on the Virtual Dementia Tour Mobile.
Developed in America, The Virtual Dementia Tour is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain an experience and understanding of what dementia might be like. The bus is one of nine supporting NHS and independent care facilities across the UK operated by Training2Care.
Using specially formulated, sensory changing equipment and environments, the tour mobile experience allows delegates to have a window into the world of people with dementia. Wearing special gloves, glasses and earphones, this remarkable experience requires delegates to perform typical everyday physical tasks while undergoing the challenging stimuli experienced by dementia sufferers. Delegates find themselves demonstrating the classic behaviours, actions and emotions that we witness every day by people that have dementia.
Relatives and friends of Peregrine House residents as well as staff were invited to participate in the Virtual Dementia Tour Mobile experience.
This was a hugely beneficial exercise which dovetails with our Excellence in Dementia Care accreditation. By understanding first-hand what our residents experience helps us ensure our carers have genuine empathy with their condition and can provide practical person-centred support.
